Mega Trends
With the UK eating out market set to recover to £63.6 billion at the end of 2021, Kara, a leading wholesale food supplier, has explored simple yet versatile trends that will help shape the out of home markets recovery. As the hospitality industry continues to adapt to the new normal, the latest edition of The Krumb explores the latest market trends.
Tech-Savvy
The pandemic has accelerated technology use in the out of the home market. Establishments that previously didn’t use technology are definitely looking to invest now. Many outlets are now using apps for table service and payments and this is something that is expected to continue as we emerge from the pandemic. Using free social apps is also great for small local businesses to create interaction and further their audience. We recommend the new video platform site TikTok and Instagram’s new Reel feature.
Alfresco
We appreciate the great outdoors now more than ever before. Alfresco dining has become the safest way to eat out and socialise during the pandemic and this is something that is set to continue. Many vendors are now investing in their outdoor areas, with some expanding their beer gardens and others preparing for the unpredictable British weather by introducing canopies, gazebos and huts – the perfect spot to serve our tasty burger buns and hot dog rolls.
Love Your Veg
As plant-based eating moves into the mainstream, consumers’ attitudes towards vegan products are evolving. Consumers are now opting for dishes that are created out of all veg rather than mimics of meat. These dishes are seen to be more natural and have a smaller ingredient deck. With 6% of all out of home meal occasions involving vegan food, this trend appears to be both growing and here to stay.
