Festive Feelgood: Championing Our Charitable Collaborations
13th December 2024
‘Tis the season for festive feelgood. And so, before we dig into mountains of mince pies this Christmas, we want to take a moment to champion our charitable collaborations and celebrate those making the world a better place – one bite at a time…
We’re proud to partner with some incredible organisations that tackle hunger, promote sustainability, and help us give back to individuals and families across the UK. Because for us, success isn’t just measured by the products we create or the revenue we generate – cliché, we know, but we’re genuinely passionate about making a positive impact in the communities we serve.
The Bread and Butter Thing
Dedicated to creating long-lasting change in struggling neighbourhoods, The Bread and Butter Thing offers nutritious and affordable food via mobile food clubs. Through these low-cost food shops, families can access essentials – from fridge favourites and cupboard staples to fruit and veg, and freshly-baked products.
With the UK’s combined food waste (household, hospitality, retail, manufacture and wholesale) amounting to a staggering 9.5 million tonnes, we’re committed to doing our bit to combat this issue.
Any surplus bakery products we manufacture – whether due to overproduction, minor food imperfections, or damage to packaging that makes them unsuitable for traditional sale – are donated to The Bread and Butter Thing. Not only does it mean no food is wasted, but it ensures that individuals across the UK can access high-quality and nutritious produce. Win:win.
And it’s had a remarkable impact over the past 12 months. In fact, our donations have:
- Totalled 23.4 tonnes
- Created 55,715 meals
- Saved 58,525kg of CO2
Meals and More
Established by Brakes in 2015, Meals and More is on a mission to help children become happier and healthier. Over the past decade, it has delivered over 2 million meals to those living in poverty or social isolation during school holidays.
In collaboration with Quorn, we supplied floured baps to the organisation throughout 2024, adding vegetarian chicken burgers to the menu.
Eager to take our support one step further, Oliver Dukes, our National Account Manager, and Naomi Ellis, our Marketing Manager, volunteered at the Ad Astra initiative in Barnsley, delivering meals to children throughout the summer break.
Looking Ahead
We’re excited to continue these partnerships throughout 2025 – and beyond – working to reduce unnecessary food waste and nourish those in deprived communities.
At Kara Foodservice, we’re committed to serving our local communities and creating memorable culinary experiences. Get in touch with us today to learn more about our charitable contributions and how you could collaborate with these deserving organisations too.
