Should pre-packed foods be considered whilst we navigate the ‘new normal’?

Although it is very unlikely that COVID-19 is transmitted through food or food packaging, the government has issued guidance. Based on this global pandemic and in order to keep customers safe, your establishment may well have to adapt menus and reconsider the way that food is served and packaged.

Opportunities for self-serving food options must be kept to a minimum. It is recommended that, as far as possible, food that is served and/or displayed should be individually wrapped. This will enhance consumer confidence and minimise contact and help avoid any possible potential spread of infection.

When individually wrapped products benefit out of home establishments

For the likes of coffee shops, food-to-go sandwich shops etc., pre-packed foods are easy swaps to make. In catering establishments like workplace restaurants, department stores or garden and leisure cafes, it may be necessary, however, to revisit the product offer to look at new, pre-packed lines that will keep customers safe.
